The Yellow Wonder Fruit
The lemon, belonging the genus of known as citrus, is the common name for citrus limon. It has many uses in terms of culinary and nonculinary purposes and is well known for its sourness.
Here, we offer you useful suggestions on what you can do with this yellow fruit.
Culinary
- -The famous lemonade
- -Often used in drinks to give a refreshing taste or as garnishing
- -Each lemon contains about 3 tablespoons of juice, always squeeze them at room temperature
- -Used in marinate for food to help neutralise nasty odours or the tenderization of meat
- -Besides orange marmalade, lemons can also be used to make marmalade.
- -The grated rind of lemon, also known as lemon zest is often used to add flavour to food
- -They can be pickled, to form a Moroccan delicacy
- -Add some lemon juice when cooking rice to prevent them from sticking together
- -Make lettuce crispy again! Add the juice of half a lemon to a bowl of water. Then put the soggy lettuce in it and refrigerate for 1 hour. After which, drain off the water and your lettuce is nice and crispy
Deodorizing
- -When barbequeing, try adding them to the fire to reduce the smoky smell
- -Room refreshner, put a bowl of water in the room, add some lemon peels.
- -Place a halved slice of lemon into the fridge to neutralise the nasty odours
- -Lemons juice also acts as a natural insecticide against insects.
Washing/Cleaning
- -Adding lemon into your dish washer helps to eliminate bad smells and is effective in removing oil.
- -Clear tarnishes off metal by making a paste of lemon juice and salt, apply on tarnished area and leave on for 5mins. Afterwards, wash it off with warm water.
- -For a mild, stain-free bleach, soak your fabrics in a mixture of lemon juice and baking soda for at least half an hour before washing.
